About SBGS

GOALS:

The Gulf Coast Genealogical Society (formally the St. Bernard Genealogical Society) was incorporated in the year of 1977 under the laws of the state of Louisiana as a non-profit, educational and research corporation.

The goals of the society are:

To encourage the study of genealogy

To create interests in genealogical records in and around St. Bernard and Louisiana
 

To foster the maintenance of family trees
 
To locate and make known the locations at which genealogical records are available

To bring to the attention of the public in general, the necessity of preserving all records of a genealogical nature for the benefit of posterity


The Society will preserve, catalog, and publish, when possible, records of a genealogical nature where such may be of interest to its members, subscribers, and students of genealogy.

The GCGS will to bring to the attention of the public in general, the necessity of preserving records of a genealogical nature for the benefit of prosperity.

Membership:

Membership in the
Gulf Coast Genealogical Society is by the calendar year. Cost for membership is $25.00 per year for single membership and family (immediate) membership.

OUR PUBLICATION COLLECTION

Nunez Community College Library, located at 3710 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA., will house the St. Bernard Genealogical Library of books and quarterly publications on its second floor.

(Note: The GCGS collection is available and in great condition at the
Elaine P. Nunez Community college in Chalmette.

 Anyone using the Nunez parking lot, without a parking permit, should pick up a one day pass from the library desk to be placed on their vehicle dashboard.  Additional unregulated parking is available at the Nunez office on Paris Road and the
adjacent streets.

Nunez Community College Library, located at 3710 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA., will house the full set of  St. Bernard Genealogical Library of books and quarterly publications L'Heritage on its second floor.

Copies of L'Heritage are available at New Orleans Public Library on Loyola Ave. in New Orleans, Jefferson Parish Library in Metairie, Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge, the Westbank Jefferson Parish Library in Gretna and several other repositories around the United States.

Note:

St. Bernard Genealogical Society is still an integral part of CCUG-PC's history. The SBGS's complete bound set of its Genealogy books is available at Nunez Community College Library.
